About the Artist

Professionally educated. Artistically unsupervised.

I’m Sita-Marie K. Pillay, the Bay Area artist behind Made in Chaos Studio. I’m also a psychologist, writer, photographer, animal rescuer, and someone who apparently looked at three jobs and thought, you know what this needs? More responsibilities.

I love mythology, comics, books, and creatures that look like they know something I don’t. My paintings range from soft and sweet to darker, stranger worlds. I see no reason to pick a personality and make the entire collection stick to it.

Actual Paint. Actual Hands.

I work with watercolor, acrylic, marker, and pen. Everything starts with a sketch. Then I build it by hand, with actual paint, actual fingers, and occasionally a questionable posture.

You’ll often see my hand holding the artwork in the photos. That’s me showing the actual piece without making it audition for a home décor magazine.

Each original has its own brushwork, texture, and details. Available originals ship in a protective sleeve. Colors may look slightly different in person depending on your screen and the lighting.

Sometimes I Put the Paintbrush Down

I also do photography, using my Canon and Nikon cameras. Every photograph on this website is one I took, including the artwork photos. Occasionally, reality provides enough weirdness that I don’t have to paint any extra.

The Animals Have Opinions

I rescue animals, which goes a long way toward explaining why I’m broke as hell. Gaining an animal’s trust matters deeply to me. Animals turn up in my art, too, because apparently they weren’t occupying enough of my life already.

The Other Chaos

I co-host 2 Distractible Doctors with Dr. Christie Pickel, where two ADHD psychologists on opposite coasts attempt to stay on topic. Results vary.

This studio is dedicated to my artistic endeavors, doodles, photography, and podcast. Give a strange little creature a home.

Buy something weird. You’ve been responsible enough today.
